What happens when application code changes ref.current?

React schedules a re-render immediately
React reloads the component tree
The ref object becomes immutable
The value changes without scheduling a re-render
React does not track ref.current mutations as reactive updates. The value changes, but the component is not re-rendered because of that mutation.
